Partner dealt and opened ONE DIAMOND, and, with opposition silent, I bid ONE NOTRUMP all passing. I proceeded to rack up nine tricks. Sadly, it was IMPs.

The lead of the FOUR of SPADES was won in hand by the QUEEN, and when I led a low diamond, the KING popped up to be topped by the ACE. I then advanced the CLUB KING, which was won by RHO's ACE, and he returned a spade won by his partner's ACE who then cleared the suit, I win the third round in dummy. I play a heart to the Queen, all following small. A diamond to the Jack proves the suspected split as Lefty pitches a low club, and a diamond to the Queen also fetches a club pitch. I cash the CQ and CJ, and the following three cards are left.

Moi. H:xx D:x dummy H:Kx Dx and since LHO is hanging on to a spade and two clubs, RHO has two hearts (AJ) and a master diamond.

I play the losing diamond from both hands, RHO wins and cashes HA and gives dummy the ninth trick.

Welcome to Ramesh's BRIDGE BLOG

In these pages, I comment on hands from Bridge Base Online ACBL tourneys. I play in these with a variety of partners with different degrees of skill. I might present a hand or two from my collection of bridge books, every now and then. I am more interested in play and defense than in complex bidding systems, but I do follow the cut and thrust of Vanderbilt and World Championship Vugraph and try to keep abreast of expert practice in the obstructive and constructive bidding system department. I may also feature, newspaper-style, famous hands from important matches that I saw on Vugraph.

NOTE: For JUNE, I am experimenting with adding BBO's Handviewers, which make bridge movies embedded. Just
scroll down beyond the few sampled book covers and you arrive at the blogs that play themselves with the NEXT button. THANKS, BBO!!
